Zulhijjah stands as one of the most sacred periods in the Islamic calendar, with its first 10 days especially cherished by Allah s.w.t. with multiplied rewards for acts of worship and charity.
As narrated in a hadith, Rasulullah s.a.w. said:
“No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (first ten days of Zulhijjah)..."
(Sahih Al-Bukhari)
This blessed month gives us an exceptional opportunity as Muslims to strengthen our connection with Allah s.w.t. through meaningful acts of devotion that can last forever.
The significance of charity is exemplified in the hadith where Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said,
"The believer's shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity"
(Tirmidhi)
If we reflect further beyond the words in this hadith, it inadvertently represents that a charity we do today will be there to protect us (as a shade) in the Day of Akhirah.
While immediate charity holds great virtue, sadaqah jaariyah (continuous charity) represents a unique form of perpetual reward that lasts forever. Sadaqah jaariyah benefits us long after the donation is made. We will continue receiving rewards and blessings even after we have passed on, as long as the asset that we have donated continues to exist.
Wakaf Masyarakat Singapura (WMS) embodies the concept of sadaqah jaariyah. While many well-known wakaf assets were established through property or land, wakaf can also be created through cash and other liquid assets1. This enables everyone of our community to contribute to sustainable giving in ways that suit their individual circumstances. Through WMS, you can start creating your legacy of continuous charity with any amount you're comfortable with. Any amount contributed will be preserved in a corpus and strategically invested, generating sustained income that supports various causes. These include the upcoming land lease renewals for our mosques, madrasah and the running of the upcoming Singapore College of Islamic Studies that aims to nurture and produce asatizah so that they may continuously guide our community.
The distinctive feature of wakaf lies in its perpetual nature, as highlighted in the Prophet's Muhammad s.a.w. teachings:
"When a person dies, all his deeds end except three: recurring charity (sadaqah jaariyah), beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for him."
(Sahih Muslim).
Contributing to WMS during Zulhijjah amplifies this perpetual reward, allowing donors to establish a lasting legacy that honours both the living and departed. Every contribution to WMS, regardless of amount, strengthens the foundations of Singapore's Muslim community. In an era calling for sustained positive impact, wakaf through WMS offers a comprehensive solution that combines immediate action with long-term vision. It transcends traditional charity by creating an enduring legacy that serves the community for generations to come.
This Zulhijjah, let your contribution echo through generations. Through Wakaf Masyarakat Singapura, transform your charitable giving into a perpetual legacy that continuously benefits our religious institutions, asatizah development and our community.
