Prayer: The Symbol of A Servant’s Servitude 

Brothers and sisters blessed by Allah,

Let us together elevate our taqwa towards Allah (s.w.t.) by observing His commandments and prohibitions. May we become servants who truly devote ourselves to Allah (s.w.t.) and obtain His pleasure. Amin. 

My dear brothers,

Allah (s.w.t.) decreed in Surah Taha, verse 14:

 

Which means: “Verily I am Allah; there is no God except Me, therefore worship Me, and perform prayer to remember Me.”

This was how Prophet Musa (a.s.) was reminded by Allah (s.w.t.). The prayer is a medium for a servant to interact and remember His Creator, Allah (s.w.t.)

By remembering Allah (s.w.t.) through the prayer, it instils a sense of calmness in a troubled heart, just as how it provided comfort for our beloved Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) as he faced challenges. In a hadith narrated by Imam Abu Daud, it is mentioned that whenever Rasulullah (s.a.w.) faced difficulties, he would perform the prayer. 

However, have we thought about how the prayer is able to instill tranquility within ourselves, as how it did for Rasulullah (s.a.w.)?

My dear brothers,

As human beings, whenever we face difficulties, do we not confide in those who we are close with regarding our concerns and worries? That is essentially what we should do, that is to constantly perform the prayer so that we remember Allah at all times.  

Whether our heart is gripped by fear or tinged with worry. Or when our heart is filled with anxiety with the problems that we are facing. It could be for any reason; financial, work-related, or any other concerns that we encounter. In that moment, we should take the opportunity during each prayer to express all of our worries and hopes to Allah, especially when we are in the state of prostration. It is narrated by Imam Muslim in a hadith, that the Prophet (s.a.w.) said:

أَقْرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ الْعَبْدُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ فَأَكْثِرُوا الدُّعَاءَ

Which means: “A servant is nearest to his Lord when he is prostrating, so increase your supplications in that moment.”

May we be among the servants who are successful in this world and in the hereafter due to our efforts in preserving our servitude towards Allah through our prayers. May Allah ensure that we and our children become among those who prioritise our prayers. Amin Ya Rabbal ‘Alamin.

أَقُوْلُ قَوْلِي هَذَا وَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ العَظِيْمَ لِي وَ لَكُمْ، فَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِيْم

Second Sermon

الحَمْدُ للهِ حَمْدًا كَثِيرًا كَمَا أَمَرَ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَن لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ سَيِّدَنَا مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ. اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ أَجْمَعِينَ. أَمَّا بَعْدُ، فَيَا عِبَادَ الله، اِتَّقُوا اللهَ تَعَالَى فِيمَا أَمَرَ، وَانتَهُوا عَمَّا نَهَاكُم عَنْهُ وَزَجَرَ.

أَلَا صَلُّوا وَسَلِّمُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ الْمُصْطَفَى، فَقَدْ أَمَرَنَا اللهُ بِذَلِكَ حَيْثُ قَال فِي كِتَابِهِ العَزِيزِ: إِنَّ اللهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَـا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسلِيمًا. اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَ بَارِكْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ.

وَارْضَ اللَّهُمَّ عَنِ الخُلَفَاءِ الرَّاشِدِينَ المَهْدِيِّينَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَعُثْمَانَ وَعَلِيِّ، وَعَن بَقِيَّةِ الصَّحَابَةِ وَالقَرَابَةِ وَالتَّابِعِينَ، وَتَابِعِي التَّابِعِينَ، وَعَنَّا مَعَهُم وَفِيهِم بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالمُؤْمِنَاتِ، وَالمُسْلِمِينَ وَالمُسْلِمَاتِ، الأَحْيَاءِ مِنهُم وَالأَمْوَاتِ. اللَّهُمَّ ادْفَعْ عَنَّا البَلَاءَ وَالوَبَاءَ وَالزَّلَازِلَ وَالمِحَنَ، مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ، عَن بَلَدِنَا خَاصَّةً، وَسَائِرِ البُلْدَانِ عَامَّةً، يَارَبَّ العَالَمِينَ. رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنيَا حَسَنَةً، وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً، وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ. 

عِبَادَ اللهِ، إِنَّ اللهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالعَدْلِ وَالإِحْسَانِ وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي القُرْبَى، وَيَنْهَى عَنِ الفَحْشَاءِ وَالمُنكَرِ وَالبَغْيِ، يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ، فَاذكُرُوا اللهَ العَظِيمَ يَذْكُركُمْ، وَاشْكُرُوهُ عَلَى نِعَمِهِ يَزِدكُمْ، وَاسْأَلُوهُ مِن فَضلِهِ يُعطِكُم، وَلَذِكرُ اللهِ أَكبَرُ، وَاللهُ  يَعلَمُ مَا تَصنَعُونَ.
