Knowing and Loving the Prophet s.a.w.

Blessed brothers,

Let us together protect our faith and increase our taqwa towards Allah s.w.t. by fulfilling all His commands and abstaining from all His prohibitions. May Allah s.w.t. place in our hearts the purest love for Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. Amin.

My Brothers,

In a few days, we will enter a blessed month, which is the month of Rabiulawal. The month in which the most noble man in the sight of Allah was born. A man who was sent as a mercy to the entire universe. He is our beloved Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. Let us observe a verse in surah al-Anbiya’ verse 107:

Which means: “And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.”

The birth of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. was an outpouring of mercy for all humankind . He was the light that illuminated the darkness which enveloped the world before his birth. He established the ties of brotherhood and ended the enmity among the people. The Prophet s.a.w. is the role model for all humankind.

Sheikh Ramadan al-Buthi mentioned in his book “Fiqh as-Sirah” that among the aims of learning the stories of the Prophet s.a.w. is to understand his character, by reflecting upon the journey of his life. These reflections allow us to appreciate the remarkable characteristics of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w., the messenger and the most beloved to Allah s.w.t. He is the best role model for us to emulate.

Brothers,

Therefore, in our efforts to show our love for him, we are highly recommended to learn about the stories of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. By doing so, it will increase our faith as well as our love for him, and make us Muslims who are constantly grateful with Allah’s blessings.

This will surely result in a lot of goodness within ourselves, and draw us closer to Allah. This is because, a person who truly loves the Prophet and practises his teachings, will not want to pollute his good deeds with bad character and immoral behaviour.

Brothers,

We are grateful for the birth of the Prophet s.a.w. We are grateful for all the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon us. We are grateful that Allah has blessed us with a perfect role model whom we can emulate in our daily lives.

All of these blessings are part of the grace of Allah s.w.t. for us. These blessings nourish our love for Allah s.w.t. and His Prophet s.a.w. Let us observe the following hadith reported by Imam At-Tirmizi which means: “Love Allah for what He nourishes you with of His Blessings, and love me due to the love of Allah.”

Brothers, don’t we all love the Prophet s.a.w.? Don’t we all miss the Prophet s.a.w? If we truly love and miss him, let us follow the footsteps of our beloved Prophet s.a.w and protect ourselves from anything that goes against his teachings. Observe the following hadith by our Prophet s.a.w. which means: “Those I love most and those sitting nearest to me on the Day of Judgement will be those of you with the best character.” [Hadith reported by Imam at-Tirmizi]

Therefore, let us strive to be on our best conduct and to present the best of our behaviour at all times. Let us observe our conduct with our neighbours, our conduct with our friends, and more importantly, our conduct and behaviour with our closest family members.

May Allah s.w.t. accept all of our efforts and good deeds. May Allah bless us with the opportunity to meet our beloved Prophet s.a.w. in the hereafter. Amin ya Rabbal ‘Alamin.

Second Sermon
