Allah’s Assistance to His Servants

 My brothers,

Let us elevate our taqwa towards Allah s.w.t. Let us obey all His commands and abstain from all His prohibitions. May He grant us His help and guidance. Amin.

My brothers,

Throughout this month, we have identified several qualities which can bring us closer to Allah s.w.t. In the Quran, some of these qualities are prefaced by the phrase:

Meaning: “Verily, Allah is with...

These verses come as a form of remedy, a source of motivation and a morale booster for us to continually increase our faith in Allah s.w.t. Our unwavering faith and trust that Allah s.w.t. is always with us, provides us the strength and assurance that He will surely show us the way out of a crisis. Let us ponder upon verse 40 of surah at-Taubah, which reads:

Which means: “… when he said to his companion, "Do not grieve; indeed, Allah is with us...”

Subhanallah! Look at how this verse beautifully depicts the story of the Quraish tribe as they were approaching the cave of Thaur, where our Prophet s.a.w. and Abu Bakr r.a. went into hiding.  During the moment of panic, our Prophet s.a.w. was giving comfort to his companion by reminding him that Allah s.w.t. was with them and would always grant them His divine help and protection.

My brothers,

As servants of Allah s.w.t., we are bound to encounter obstacles and challenges in life. Trials and tribulations will continue to afflict us, for as long as we live.

A believer and a servant of Allah s.w.t. must remain calm and hold fast to his faith. He should also strive to find a way out of any challenges and hardship. He must remain optimistic by seeing these hardships as an opportunity to improve the quality of his life and to seek Allah’s pleasure. He should also remain patient in overcoming the various forms of adversities. The concept of “giving up” does not exist in a believer’s vocabulary; as he continues to give his best to improve his situation. No matter how great the challenges he faces, he realizes that the favours that Allah has bestowed him with are much greater. Allah says in surah an-Nahl, verse 18:

Which means: “And if you should count the favours of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful”.

Dear brothers,

In these blessed moments, let us extend our gratitude to Allah s.w.t. for the opportunity to usher in the new Islamic year of 1442H. Alhamdulillah, we will also be observing the 10th of Muharram tomorrow, also known as the day of Ashura. Hence, let us increase our good deeds and acts of worship, and seize this opportunity to embody the sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. by fasting on the day of Ashura along with the day before or after it.

May our efforts enable us to attain Allah’s blessings and protection in this world and the hereafter. Amin Ya Rabbal ‘Alamin.

Second Khutbah
